For a brief moment during the COVID-19 pandemic,
I had the pleasure of collaborating with musicians from around the world in a "Music and Poetry" experience. Each artist maintains ownership of their work.

"MOONLIGHT SONATA"

Originally published in 1802 as "Quasi Una Fantasia" (Italian for "Almost A Fantasy"), the "Moonlight" sonata received its epithet from poet Ludwig Rellstab five years after Beethoven's death. This composition has often been associated with love and romance. However, nothing could be further from the truth. As subtly implied by its original title, "Quasi Una Fantasia" was undeniably inspired by loss, grief, and death.

During his most creative, yet extremely difficult years due to his ongoing battle with tuberculosis, Chopin often contemplated suicide. One of his most enchanting piano compositions may have been a type of musical suicide note that he requested be played at his funeral. Chopin also requested that his heart be removed from his body at the time of his death and returned to his native land of Poland. Today, his heart is kept in a crypt at the Holy Cross Church in Warsaw, just 100 miles from the 700-year-old Bartek Tree.
Frederic Chopin (1810-1849) was buried in Paris, France.
